Virtual Memory Low

Case Study: Today, I was asked "also the Virtual Memory Low window pops up for no good reason".
My first response back to him, was to check his disk space, since virtual memory swaps out to disk.
But lets dig deeper into this.
First a definition of what Virtual Memory is. Wikipedia is always a good spot for definitions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory
"Virtual memory is a computer system technique which gives an application program the impression that it has contiguous working memory, while in fact it may be physically fragmented and may even overflow on to disk storage."
Possible Causes: Here is what the internet turned up.
- Dave Taylor says in his article, "Unless you have very little physical memory (RAM) in your system, this message is indicative of a buggy application with a memory leak."
- Microsoft says in this article, "Solution #1: Bump up the virtual memory size on your PC... Solution #2: Add more RAM to your PC". Well, I agree #2 (adding memory) well boost performance of your machine, but it may not be an option for you. So try out some the suggestions in #1.
- Microsoft also says in this article, "This behavior may occur if you try to start any of the programs included in Office on a computer where the paging file value setting is too low."
- Bob Rankin brings up several good points in his article, check to make sure you are letting Windows "manage the size". I am checking out his suggestions right now on my computer. (Involves restart of computer)
Summary: I would first look at your Virtual Memory settings by following what Microsoft suggests here. It is a good article, so I don't feel the need to repeat it here.
Then if that does not help, then look at what programs you have running and read this article by Dave.
If that does not help (or if you need some help with the above), shoot an email to help@telluridetech.com and I can schedule a time to help you out.
Good luck....
