Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac

Happy New Year everyone!

For this December's Gadget Tech review, I chose the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro For Mac.

This was a holiday gift from my family, and I have been very happy with it so far.

Instead of writing a lot of technical "mumbo jumbo", I thought I would do a side-by-side comparison with the iSight camera on my 1 year old MacBook.

But before we do this comparison, lets look at a little information.

First, this QuickCam It can be found at Amazon:

Second, these technical Details was taken directly from the Amazon site:

  • Includes a free download of Logitech Vid software dramatically simplifies video calling
  • Supports your existing Mac OS and video applications, right out of the box
  • AutoFocus, Carl Zeiss optics and 2-megapixel resolution for smooth, razor-sharp, high-clarity video calls
  • RightLight2 Technology adjusts brightness for perfect images, even in dim light
High-quality built-in microphone for crisp, clear video conversations

I have NOT tried the free download of the Logitech Vid Software. I have Skype, it it works great with that. I also agree that it worked straight out of the box. I just plugged it in, pointed PhotoBooth and Skype to it, and it works, no installing software, no downloads.

I have also been very happy with the AutoFocus and 2-megapixel images. But what I am most happy about is the RightLight2 Technology. As you will see in the comparison, in lower light, the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro really "shines".

Ok, on to the comparison. I positioned the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro as near to the iSight as possible. I started PhotoBooth Video capture at the same time.

Here are the results:

Captured using the iSight on MacBook

[Note: I mention in the above video that it uses, RightSight, it is actually RightLight! Opps, no time to re-record]

Thoughts:
As expected, the Logitech was a huge improvement. Not really a fair compaireson, but I really might consider bring my Logitech QuickCam with me on the road instead of the built in iSight.

So again, the lighting is much improved on the Logitech. The majority of the lighting was from overhead and it shows on the iSight. Also, the area captured is larger on the Logitech. There was one loud "pop" on the Logitech video (around 0:29), but I think overall it was better.

Please comment below with your experiences.

Ok, off to bring in the New Year.

Cheers!
